Best Science Fiction Movies of All Time

For adult viewers who want science fiction to expand both imagination and understanding, this ranking values speculative ideas, distinctive filmmaking and human consequences. It includes alien encounters, artificial minds, altered societies, time travel and post-apocalyptic worlds, across live action and animation. The order is an editorial judgement, not a technology-accuracy score. Arrival and Gattaca offer accessible routes into ideas; Alien and The Thing bring intense horror; Stalker and Solaris ask for slower, more open-ended attention. Recent releases are considered alongside established work. Sequels, alternate cuts and unusually demanding material are identified where they affect the viewing choice.
