Eva Green's Artemisia brings amused command to a sea of digitally heightened combat. She can make a pause before an order feel more dangerous than the next wall of bodies, and her appetite for retaliation gives the otherwise thin conflict a personal temperature. The graphic violence and sexual encounter remain emphatic; Green's precise relish is what gives the spectacle a personality between battles.
