Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)

Alan Rickman's Sheriff treats every inconvenience as a personal insult, stretching a word or dropping his voice until an ordinary threat becomes a miniature comic scene. His irritated physical energy gives this uneven, rather solemn adventure a much-needed pulse. Morgan Freeman supplies warmth elsewhere; Rickman supplies the delicious sense that someone knows precisely how ridiculous the enterprise can be.
