Toy Story 2 (1999)
Movie
Released
Woody's temptation to become a perfectly preserved collectible becomes sharper once you know the cost of keeping life safely unused. Jessie's remembered abandonment gives that choice an emotional history, rather than making it a lesson delivered to the hero. The airport rescue is still enormous fun; the adult sting lies in recognising that being loved cannot come with a guarantee against loss.
