Howl's Moving Castle (2004)

Sophie's changed body exposes how much of her earlier life was already governed by the belief that she should make herself unobtrusive. Her increasingly practical authority is a pleasure to follow beside Howl's glamorous evasions. The moving castle and elaborate war fantasy can be bewildering; the adult emotional route is clearer, through care, vanity and the relief of being needed without having to remain young.
