Princess Mononoke (1997)
Movie

Lady Eboshi protects people excluded elsewhere while helping destroy the forest that sustains other lives. That contradiction makes this environmental conflict harder to divide into comforting sides as you grow older. San's anger and Ashitaka's efforts to listen retain their urgency without resolving the competing needs neatly. Expect bloody violence and bodily injury; this is an expansive moral argument with formidable creatures, rather than gentle nature escapism.
