The Tale of The Princess Kaguya (2013)
Movie
Released
The bamboo cutter wants to give his daughter a better life, but the status he acquires comes with increasingly narrow rules for how she should live. Kaguya's bodily freedom seems to drain away as her surroundings become more luxurious. That parental mistake gives the delicate brushwork a fierce emotional charge. The fairy tale becomes a painful study of confusing a child's happiness with an approved future.
