The Lion King (1994)
Movie

Simba's retreat into a life without responsibility is charming until you recognise how grief and shame can make avoidance feel sensible. The songs and comic sidekicks still have their buoyancy; the return to an unfinished obligation gains weight with age. Its account of kingship is a fable rather than a political argument. A parent's violent death remains the emotional hinge, however familiar the music becomes.
