Invictus (2009)
7.3/10on IMDb
Released
Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon give a rugby campaign a larger question about the uses of public symbols after apartheid. Clint Eastwood makes the sporting progress accessible to non-specialists. The historical compression and reassuring structure deserve awareness, but the film offers a clear view of how a team can become part of an attempted national conversation.

Murderball (2005)
7.7/10on IMDb
Released
Henry Alex Rubin and Dana Adam Shapiro let wheelchair rugby players define themselves through competitive aggression, humour and life away from the court. The documentary refuses a purely sentimental view of disability. Its sporting value is in treating strategy, rivalry and difficult personalities as ordinary parts of serious competition.
