House (1977)

A haunted piano is only one of the objects that refuses to stay in its proper category. Nobuhiko Obayashi mixes painted backdrops, animation and cheerful schoolgirl poses until a holiday feels like a child's nightmare recalled at adult speed. The older exception here is a good test of whether visible artifice delights you: polished realism would spoil the point.
