Be Kind Rewind (2008)
Movie
Released
After a mishap wipes a video shop's tapes, its clerk and his friend start remaking the films customers want with whatever they can find. Mos Def and Jack Black make that wildly inadequate service solution feel like a local artistic movement. Be Kind Rewind is the inventive, handmade choice: keeping the shop useful turns ordinary retail responsibility into a joyful production problem. Its whimsical logic asks for indulgence, but the growing participation gives the work a warmth that a slicker scam would lose.
