The Promotion (2008)

Two supermarket employees compete to manage a new branch, and an ordinary promotion starts absorbing their entire view of one another. Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly keep the need for better pay and security visible beneath the small manoeuvres. The Promotion finds comedy in how ambition can make a colleague's every action look strategic. Choose its hesitant, uncomfortable rivalry over a broad farce; some of the racial awkwardness is deliberately sour, and its subdued rhythm will not suit a night seeking constant laughs.
