The Dark Knight (2008)
Movie
Released
The Dark Knight missed the Best Picture nominations at the 2009 ceremony, won by Slumdog Millionaire. Heath Ledger won Supporting Actor and the film also won Sound Editing, so 'ignored by the Oscars' would be inaccurate. The top-category argument concerns the whole construction: action, cross-cutting and compromised institutions make Batman's choices part of a citywide moral crisis. Whether that accumulation outweighs the film's heavy exposition is a better debate than treating genre as an automatic entitlement.
