Political Leaders Who Used New Media Early

A phonograph greeting, a radio address, a campaign website and a gaming livestream belong to different moments in political communication. This selection follows leaders who tried emerging media or unfamiliar political uses of existing platforms, setting out the technology and era for each case. Early means early in the relevant political setting, not necessarily the first person anywhere to use a device. Some examples were experiments with tiny audiences; others became substantial campaign or government operations. The sequence moves from recorded voices and moving images through broadcasting, cassette circulation and the web to social platforms and projected appearances. Candidates, public officials, supporters, producers and technical teams played different roles, which the entries keep visible. Novelty is not proof of persuasion, a large audience is not an election result, and adopting a medium says little by itself about the merits of a political cause. This is a historical selection, not a global ranking or a guide to winning campaigns.
