Philip Seymour Hoffman's arms broker Owen Davian barely seems interested in Ethan Hunt as a person. His flat delivery makes a threat feel like information he has no reason to soften, which is chilling beside Tom Cruise's urgent physical commitment. The opening interrogation gives Davian power through patience rather than a decorative lair or a complicated speech. Choose this for a villain who can steal an action film by refusing to perform its excitement.
