The Fifth Element (1997)

Gary Oldman's Zorg moves through The Fifth Element as if running a criminal business were an invitation to correct everyone's manners. The pinched diction, fussy gestures and extravagant appearance give the commercial intermediary a comic rhythm of his own. Bruce Willis's Korben handles the rescue plot with weary practicality; Zorg is more absurdly specific. They operate on largely separate tracks, so this is a villain stealing attention through parallel scenes rather than a great face-to-face duel.
