Paddington 2 (2017)

Hugh Grant's Phoenix Buchanan keeps treating real people as a disappointing supporting cast. Changes of costume and voice are funny because the actor's vanity remains recognisable underneath every disguise. Paddington's kindness is the film's anchor; Buchanan's appetite for an appreciative audience makes him the comic scene-stealer. He is the thief opposing the bear, not a flamboyant helper. Even his private conversations seem addressed to the review he hopes someone is writing.
