Blackadder (1983)
TV Show
First aired
Rowan Atkinson makes an insult sound like a carefully sharpened tool, but the pleasure comes from seeing cleverness fail against rank, vanity and Baldrick's terrible reasoning. Moving the ensemble through different historical settings keeps the power games fresh. The recommendation is strongest for series two to four, which refine the scheming central character and build towards unusually affecting wartime comedy. The first series has a noticeably different comic personality.

About Blackadder
Blackadder traces the deeply cynical and self-serving lineage of various Edmund Blackadders throughout British history, from the muck of the Middle Ages to the frontline of The Great War.
