Businesspeople Who Funded Long-Term Scientific Research

Scientific research needs more than a launch announcement. These 25 businesspeople helped finance institutes, endowments and recurring programmes that gave researchers time, facilities or sustained support. The selection favours identifiable institutions and documented funding histories across medicine, computing, ocean science and other fields. It includes gifts made with spouses, public partners and later foundation decisions, rather than treating every achievement as one donor's work. This is a historical selection, not a ranking by generosity or a claim that every pledge was paid in full.
