Maniac (2018)

A pharmaceutical trial promises to repair two strangers' lives, then sends them through a succession of invented worlds. Emma Stone and Jonah Hill supply the vulnerable human continuity beneath the changing genres. The retro equipment and dubious clinical assurances should appeal to a Lumon enthusiast, but the deeper link is the inadequacy of a technical solution to loneliness and grief.
