This older exception turns a broken marriage into furious movement, monstrous imagery and performances that seem to shake the room. Isabelle Adjani's intensity is the reason to watch, rather than a comfortable person to follow through a familiar horror plot. Sexual and bodily distress combine with emotional extremity. A shared love of maximalist cinema would be useful information to have before pressing play.
