Patriot (2015)

by tv_binger  •
Patriot
TV Show
8.2/10on IMDb
First aired
An intelligence officer has to maintain cover as an employee of an industrial-piping company while a difficult mission keeps acquiring further practical problems. The deadpan workplace detail makes even a supposedly simple errand feel consequential. John Tavner's competence and distress are inseparable, with songs expressing what the job requires him to conceal. It is an unusually funny, melancholy route from Jimmy's improvisations; its two-season story remains unfinished.

Mr Inbetween (2018)

Ray Shoesmith's criminal work does not exempt him from parenting, friendship or the ordinary need to be somewhere on time. Scott Ryan gives the character's practical manner enough consistency that small shifts in it matter. The Australian series is terse, funny and capable of sudden severe violence. Its finished three-season run is particularly rewarding if Saul's relationships mattered more than elaborate legal plotting.

Rectify (2013)

Rectify
TV Show
8.3/10on IMDb
First aired
Daniel Holden returns home after his conviction is vacated, without receiving a simple new identity to replace the one other people have assigned him. The patient drama gives ordinary conversation and an apparently small decision room to become difficult. There is much less tactical plotting than in Better Call Saul. Its value is the sustained attention to a person trying to live beyond a public verdict.

The Americans (2013)

The Americans
TV Show
8.4/10on IMDb
First aired
Two Soviet intelligence officers have to maintain professional discipline while their American family develops needs the operation cannot neatly contain. A successful deception at work may create an unbearable problem at home. The series shares Saul's interest in people who are extremely good at sustaining an arrangement they are no longer sure they can inhabit. It is more physically violent and offers a substantial six-season commitment.

The Good Wife
TV Show
8.3/10on IMDb
First aired
Alicia Florrick rebuilds a legal career while carrying a public scandal she did not create. Cases give cleverness a practical outlet, but professional loyalties and the pressure to stay employed keep changing what a satisfactory outcome means. This is glossier and more procedural than Better Call Saul. The continuing pleasure is watching competence acquire a reputation, and a reputation become another constraint.

Terriers (2010)

by tv_binger  •
Terriers
TV Show
8.3/10on IMDb
First aired
An ex-cop and an ex-con try to make an unlicensed private-investigation business work without much financial or emotional margin for error. Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James make friendship part of the problem-solving rather than relief from it. The single season's local mystery grows out of apparently manageable jobs. FX cancelled this critically admired, poorly watched series, leaving some threads open.

Get Shorty (2017)

Get Shorty
TV Show
8.2/10on IMDb
First aired
A criminal's move into film production makes pitching, budgeting and persuading a difficult collaborator part of the suspense. Miles Daly can solve one problem through intimidation while creating several that require a different kind of judgement. The 2017 television version is a useful choice for the pleasure Saul takes in process, with humour coming from incompatible professional cultures rather than a constant supply of punchlines.

Task (2025)

by tv_binger  •
Task
TV Show
7.9/10on IMDb
First aired
A strained FBI team pursues violent robberies led by a man whose ordinary family responsibilities complicate any quick account of who he is. Brad Ingelsby's 2025 drama stays with the people carrying those conflicting roles. It is much heavier and less playful than Saul, but makes professional decisions accumulate through domestic life instead of treating the investigation as a separate, self-contained job.

The Bureau (2015)

The Bureau
TV Show
8.7/10on IMDb

An undercover identity is a carefully built professional tool until the person using it cannot easily stop needing the life attached to it. The French intelligence drama gives training, reporting and patient observation tangible weight. The connection is to Saul's fascination with a role becoming a way of living. Relationships carry consequences that institutional expertise cannot make disappear.

Follow the Money (2016)

Follow the Money
TV Show
7.6/10on IMDb
First aired
The Danish financial-crime series gives ambition practical routes through banks, businesses and people's apparently ordinary work. Its later bank-employee storyline is an especially close companion to Saul's interest in a respectable role becoming a channel for compromise. The focus changes across three seasons, widening the view of who enables an arrangement. Choose it for the procedures and pressures behind a corrupt decision.
