The Chronicles of Riddick (2004)
Movie

A small-scale fugitive suddenly has to navigate an empire of ornate death worshippers, an expansion so excessive that it becomes the appeal. Vin Diesel's minimalism is amusingly outnumbered by the production design. The mythology can feel dumped on the viewer, but the severe shapes, strange planets and prison escape give science-fiction maximalists a substantial defence.
