Girls from Ipanema (2019)

Women in late-1950s Rio form alliances around music, work and lives that other people would prefer to arrange for them. The Portuguese-language drama shares Derry Girls' interest in a place becoming visible through a group's apparently private ambitions, with race and class shaping who can take a risk. This is a much more romantic, music-filled adult detour than a sitcom. Its two-season run leaves wider storylines open, including serious domestic violence.
