Kamome Diner (2006)
Movie
Released
Sachie's Japanese diner in Helsinki has to become a place people feel able to enter before it can become a business. Rice balls and conversation give Naoko Ogigami's gentle comedy a routine around which strangers can gather. Choose it for unhurried companionship and quiet incongruity. Its Finnish setting is specific, rather than a claim that the same dishes mean the same thing everywhere.

On a quiet street in Helsinki, Sachie has opened a diner featuring rice balls. For a month she has no customers. Then, in short order, she has her first customer, meets Midori, a gangly Japanese tourist, and invites her to stay with her.
