Entrepreneurs Who Turned Trade Skills into Businesses

Before the company names came work with tools, materials and customers. These biographies connect practical trades with businesses: plumbing, shoemaking, baking, pottery, metalwork, hairdressing and more. Some founders entered a trade as teenagers; others changed careers before starting a company. Start with John Deere for a repair problem becoming a product, Charlie Mullins for a trade service growing into a team, or Joanne Chang for learning kitchen work after another career. Apprenticeship is one route here, alongside family workshops and professional training. The entries also name the partners, employers and resources that helped turn a useful skill into a viable venture.
