Jonathan Glazer makes a comfortable household's separation from Auschwitz an appalling formal fact, especially through what the soundtrack refuses to let the walls exclude. Its rigour is the point, not a hidden promise of emotional release. Admiring that conception can coexist with finding its controlled perspective difficult to inhabit.
