Architecture, migration and patronage are given an ambitious scale, with Adrien Brody supplying a compellingly exposed centre. Brady Corbet's formal confidence is easy to respect. The later emphasis and symbolism may feel less persuasive than the early working relationships; choose it ready to assess a large, uneven-feeling experience rather than fulfil an obligation to like an awards favourite.
