Super Mario Odyssey (2017)

Combining a cap throw, a dive and a well-judged jump can turn a perfectly ordinary ledge into an invitation to show off. The kingdoms leave space to practise those connections away from tightly scripted sequences. Start with a few dependable moves before trying elaborate skips. Much of the main adventure is welcoming, while optional moons reward increasingly inventive control.
