For the Terminator series, stop here if the appeal is a frightening future becoming a problem people might actually change. The sequel turns the first film's pursuit into a stronger emotional relationship. Later films repeatedly reopen the machinery; they offer different pleasures, but make this hard-earned sense of possibility less final.
