Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

The second Guardians film asks its quarrelling crew to distinguish family history from the people who actually show up. Rocket's defensiveness, Gamora and Nebula's difficult relationship, and Yondu's place in Peter's life give the space battles a more personal purpose. The loyalty is messy and sometimes badly expressed, which is why it belongs here rather than merely being another team adventure. Watch the first film before this one; bereavement gives the jokes a painful undertow.
