The Witness (2016)
8.2/10on IGDB
Released
Most of the island lets you leave a panel, walk elsewhere and return with a new understanding of its symbols or surroundings. There is no campaign calendar chasing that detour. The important exception is the optional Challenge, which is explicitly timed; it is not required for the ordinary ending. Some puzzles also involve moving mechanisms, so patient observation matters even though there is no general time limit.

The Talos Principle II (2023)
8.7/10on IGDB
Released
The main puzzle regions let you inspect beam connections, rearrange devices and look for a different approach without an investigation clock. You can move to another available chamber rather than spending the evening repeatedly forcing one solution. The main campaign leaves room for that detour. Dialogue choices can affect the story, so freedom to think is not the same as every narrative choice being reversible.

A Short Hike (2019)
7.3/10on IGDB
Released
Collect feathers, take a fishing detour or glide down a route that looked interesting from above. The summit waits, and an unsuccessful climb does not consume a life. Races and other dexterity challenges are optional activities rather than a clock over the whole hike. It is a compact island with real movement to learn, but you decide how much wandering belongs between setting out and reaching the top.

Sable (2021)
7.3/10on IGDB
Released
The Gliding is a rite of passage you can prolong while exploring ruins, helping people and collecting masks. A day-night cycle changes the desert's appearance without setting a date by which your exploration must be finished. Climbing still uses stamina, so individual routes can need another attempt. You choose when to conclude the journey, and reloading after the ending returns you to before that choice.

Sid Meier's Civilization VI (2016)
8.0/10on IGDB
Released
Play single-player with the turn timer off. You can spend as long as you need comparing a district placement or reading diplomacy before ending the turn. Rivals still expand, wars still matter and victory conditions still create a race measured in turns: this is not a pressure-free campaign. Its place here is the freedom to think through a consequential decision without losing because you were reading slowly.

Into the Breach (2018)
8.2/10on IGDB
Released
Enemy intentions stay visible while you inspect the board and work through a possible chain of pushes, blocks and attacks. Missions usually ask you to survive a fixed number of turns, but those turns advance through your decisions rather than a wall clock. Buildings and pilots can still be lost, and resets are limited. It offers generous thinking time around serious consequences, rather than unlimited reversibility.
