A working mother's practical problems keep colliding with an apparently impossible return from the past. Pedro Almodóvar's Spanish-language ensemble is colourful, brisk and generous to women managing more than they admit. The family history includes abuse, so its comic surface is not a promise of uncomplicated comfort.
