The Guard (2011)

Brendan Gleeson's west-of-Ireland policeman uses bluntness and apparent incuriosity to keep other people off balance. Don Cheadle gives him an excellent opposing rhythm. An Irish-led production with British participation, it earns a place through caustic character comedy; the language and deliberate provocation will not suit every audience.
