Beautiful Thing (1996)

Two boys' tentative relationship grows among neighbours whose arguments and loyalties refuse to remain politely in the background. The south London setting gives the British romantic comedy a recognisable social texture. Its affection comes with homophobia and difficult home lives, but the ensemble's humour keeps pleasure from being treated as an impossible luxury.
