Ana Lily Amirpour's feature debut gives a fictional Iranian town a nocturnal rhythm of music, looking and sudden danger. Sheila Vand's stillness makes the vampire story feel unusually watchful. The Bad Batch later builds another highly stylised outsider world; the debut's Persian-language, California-shot construction already makes genre atmosphere into a personal vocabulary.
