Karyn Kusama gives training and anger a physical rhythm through Michelle Rodriguez's concentrated presence. The boxing spaces are a social world, not just a route to an inspirational final bout. The Invitation and Destroyer would use different genres, but this debut establishes her interest in people whose force can be misread from the outside.
