Tom McCarthy lets three people build a relationship through awkward returns to the same place. Peter Dinklage's reserve is allowed to be both a boundary and a form of attention. The later Win Win and Spotlight have different structures, yet the debut already shows a useful trust in ensembles doing something more particular than delivering themes.
