Marathon Man (1976)
Movie

An ordinary student's assumptions about family and public space become unreliable as a hidden history intrudes. John Schlesinger keeps the protagonist's knowledge painfully smaller than the network around him. The infamous physical coercion is central to its severity; choose it for personal exposure to a conspiracy rather than a restrained procedural.
