Ke Huy Quan's Waymond supports the central story through alert listening, practical kindness and sharply different physical registers. An imagined film from one of his alternative lives could make that approach face a problem he cannot solve by accommodating everyone. The character is a major supporting presence, with enough contradictory possibilities to sustain his own viewpoint.
