Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

Best Picture, 2009 ceremony. Danny Boyle's speed, the young cast and A.R. Rahman's music make the quiz-show journey exhilarating. Rewatching puts more weight on the device linking each answer to a formative incident. Experiences of violence and exploitation start to look too efficiently filed for their eventual use, while Latika has limited space beyond Jamal's longing. The movement still carries excitement; the tidy pattern supplies fewer new emotional connections than the first rush promises.
