Fantasy With Queer Joy and Room for Adventure

Queer joy can look like opening a café together, discovering a first crush, taking a dragon-sized risk or finally finding people worth going on the road with. These twenty-five fantasies give their characters desires, skills and adventures as well as identities. There are gentle graphic novels, young adult quests and adult romances, with those differences identified in the entries. Romance ranges from a small part of a welcoming world to the whole delicious point; danger ranges from village mishaps to assassins, monsters and threatened kingdoms. The more perilous choices earn their place through affection, agency and the possibility of a life worth building. Start with So This Is Ever After for comic romantic confusion, Mooncakes for a supportive magical household, or Running Close to the Wind for decidedly adult pirate chaos. For a quieter new discovery, The Keeper of Magical Things turns an unpromising assignment into shared purpose and a sapphic love story.
