Spielberg's crowds, broken infrastructure and parental panic make the invasion feel terrifyingly immediate. Robbie's convenient reappearance at the family reunion softens that experience more than the story has earned. The film never confirms his death, so this is an objection to emotional probability, not a claim that it literally resurrects him; the reassurance makes a vast catastrophe feel selectively forgiving.
