Science Fiction Mysteries Where the World Changes the Case

The invented world should change the investigation: what a witness could know, whether a body proves a death, how a person is identified or who has authority to follow a clue. These books make their speculative conditions part of the case. Start with The Caves of Steel for deduction, Six Wakes for an enclosed group of suspects, or Titanium Noir for a compact noir. The range also includes strange cities, possible futures, academic enquiries and darker mysteries whose explanations emerge through a larger story. Some depend more on atmosphere and discovery than on a conventional whodunit. The notes distinguish those pleasures without disclosing the solutions.
