Black Panther (2018)
7.3/10on IMDb
Released
Killmonger identifies a real failure: Wakanda has protected its prosperity while people of African descent elsewhere face oppression, and it has abandoned him personally. The film lets that accusation change T'Challa. But Killmonger's programme exports weapons and substitutes a new imperial hierarchy for liberation. His willingness to kill and dominate makes the argument compelling precisely where the remedy becomes indefensible.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
7.4/10on IMDb

Vulture sees the unfairness when a clean-up contract is taken from his small firm by an operation tied to the people who caused the damage. That gives Adrian Toomes a recognisable economic grievance. His response is to traffic dangerous stolen technology and threaten a teenager and his family. The fact that he later protects Peter's identity complicates him, without making the business a public service.

X-Men: First Class (2011)
7.7/10on IMDb
Released
Magneto has direct experience of persecution, and the naval forces' attack gives his distrust of human authorities immediate evidence. Charles's reassurance therefore cannot simply erase Erik's fear. Turning the missiles back on the ships, however, makes collective retaliation his answer to collective suspicion. The scene is worth debating because it vindicates his warning about danger while refusing to vindicate everything he does with it.
4
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
7.6/10on IMDb
Released
Koba's scars are evidence of human experimentation, and the humans' arsenal makes caution reasonable. Caesar's more affectionate history cannot stand in for every ape's experience. But Koba shoots Caesar, blames humans and kills an ape who refuses his orders. He manufactures the crisis that will prove him right, turning a legitimate demand for safety into a rule under which dissent itself becomes betrayal.

The Batman (2022)
7.8/10on IMDb
Released
Riddler exposes a real network of officials and organised crime feeding on money intended for Gotham's renewal. His anger about neglected children also punctures Bruce Wayne's assumption that their orphanhoods are comparable. Flooding the city and sending armed followers after people sheltering together destroys any claim that he is protecting its overlooked residents. The useful distinction is between uncovering corruption and appointing yourself entitled to punish everyone.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
6.6/10on IMDb
Released
Namor's fear of resource-hungry outsiders has historical roots in his people's flight from colonisation and immediate support in the hunt for vibranium. Talokan's wish to remain safe is understandable. Demanding Riri's death and pushing Wakanda towards war turn protection into coercion, even though a Talokan casualty gives his later retaliation a further grievance. The film makes that escalation harder to dismiss than a simple appetite for conquest.
7
Blade Runner (1982)
8.1/10on IMDb
Released
Roy Batty wants more life from a company that manufactures people for disposable labour. The four-year limit gives his demand an urgency that the human authorities prefer to treat as a technical problem. Murdering Tyrell and terrorising Deckard do not follow morally from that claim. His final act of mercy matters because it shows another response remains possible, making him more interesting than a speech about the cruelty of his creators.

Batman Begins (2005)
8.2/10on IMDb
Released
Ra's al Ghul recognises that Gotham's corruption reaches beyond individual criminals. His proposed purge makes every resident expendable, with fear toxin supplying the mechanism. The film also undermines his posture as a detached diagnostician: the League helped engineer the city's earlier economic crisis. He has noticed a systemic failure while helping create it, a contradiction that makes his certainty about destroying Gotham especially revealing.
9
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
6.1/10on IMDb
Released
Gorr's daughter dies while the god he worships enjoys abundance and mocks his suffering. The film later gives divine indifference a larger stage, so his accusation has support beyond personal bitterness. Kidnapping children and seeking the extinction of all gods make grief a licence for indiscriminate harm. His eventual choice to restore his daughter rather than complete the slaughter recognises a need that revenge had displaced.

Sinners (2025)

Remmick's offer of fellowship has force in a Jim Crow society built on exclusion, and his Irish songs give him a history of cultural loss. But his apparently inclusive vampire community consumes people, memories and autonomy to produce its unity. The shared love of music makes the offer seductive; the coercion makes it monstrous. That tension supports a reading about belonging without requiring us to accept his promise as honest or Coogler's metaphor as fixed.
