David William Grainger

Grainger expanded the industrial supply company founded by his father, William Wallace Grainger. Maintenance and repair customers needed access to many small, essential products without having to negotiate separately with every manufacturer. His operating career makes distribution itself worth studying: breadth of stock and dependable access can be the product. This is a successor story, with earlier managers and branch teams central to the business.
