The Straight Story (1999)
Movie
Released
Alvin Straight travels towards his estranged brother on a lawnmower, bringing the pace down until a roadside conversation can become the event of the day. David Lynch finds adventure in modest distances and the willingness to keep moving. The Iowa-to-Wisconsin journey makes ordinary rural surroundings feel worth attending to, without turning the real man's difficult undertaking into a holiday challenge. A generous choice when you want the journey to make room for other people's lives.

About The Straight Story
Retired farmer and widower Alvin Straight learns one day that his estranged brother Lyle has suffered a severe stroke. Alvin is determined to make things right with Lyle while he still can, but his brother lives in Wisconsin, while Alvin is stuck in Iowa with no car and no driver's license. He then has the idea of making the trip on his old lawnmower, thus beginning a picturesque and at times deeply spiritual odyssey.
