The Beach (2000)
Movie
Released
Underworld's 8 Ball and New Order's Brutal reward staying beyond the familiar comfort of Moby's Porcelain and All Saints' Pure Shores. The compilation can move between dreamy escape and unease without having to resolve the film's competing ideas about paradise. Danny Boyle's story has potent images, but its shifts into romance, menace and satire are less satisfying than the record's changing current. This recommendation is for the song album, not Angelo Badalamenti's separately released original score.
