Addams Family Values (1993)
Movie
Released
The Addamses remain comparatively well adjusted because the supposedly normal people around them are so pleased with themselves. Wednesday's encounter with compulsory summer-camp cheerfulness gives Christina Ricci a splendid target for her stillness, while Joan Cusack's nanny brings a different, extravagantly aggrieved energy. The jokes keep changing scale without losing the family's strange internal logic. It is sharper than the usual sequel expectation, particularly when it turns conformity itself into the grotesque spectacle.
