Happy Together (1997)

Buenos Aires gives two Hong Kong lovers jobs and temporary rooms without resolving what they want from each other. Wong Kar-wai makes distance from home tangible in working hours and repeated returns to a shared space. The famous waterfall lies outside the city; the urban story is the more cramped business of earning, waiting and negotiating dependence. Its beauty accompanies an emotionally punishing relationship.
